7 October 2025. A Century of Partnership: The Past, Present, and Future of American–Hungarian Relation

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce, and Consular Rights between the United States and Hungary. To commemorate the occasion, the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics (JLI) of the Eötvös József Research Centre at Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS), in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, the Hungary Foundation, and the Hungarian–American Fulbright Commission, organized an international conference on October 7 in the University’s Széchenyi Hall.

European policy practitioners, analysts and experts exchanged views on the strategic tasks of the development of the European defense industry and the military technology development experience of the more than three years of the Russian–Ukrainian war at the international workshop of the John Lukacs Institute organized on September 11, 2025.

8 September 2025. Hungarian-Japanese Dialogue

On 8 September, the Directorate General for International Affairs (NFI) of the Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS) and the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics (JLI) convened a roundtable discussion at the university’s Educational Center with the participation of distinguished Hungarian and Japanese experts. This was the second edition of the dialogue, which explored Europe’s and the Far East’s current strategic environment, as well as Hungary’s international role, with particular emphasis on the country’s foreign policy and economic room for maneuver, the importance of minority rights, and the question of energy security.

29 May 2025. Changing Global Rules and Europe’s “China Card”

With the participation of distinguished experts, the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics (JLI) at the Ludovika University of Public Service organized a conference entitled ‘Does Europe Have a China Card? – The EU’s Strategic Room for Maneuver After the U.S. Presidential Election’ on May 29 at the university’s Orczy Road Residence Hall.

21 May 2025.Transatlantic Relations and Geopolitical Competition in Central Europe

This was the title of the English-language international conference organized by the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics on May 21, held in the Zrínyi Hall of the Ludovika University of Public Service. The event was opened by its moderator, Gábor Csizmazia, Research Fellow at the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics, followed by welcoming remarks from Pier Paolo Pigozzi, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at the Ludovika University. As he emphasized, the Ludovika University of Public Service is committed to fostering cooperation, including maintaining an extensive network of transatlantic partnerships. Faculty members, researchers, and students alike are engaged in seeking both scholarly and practical responses to contemporary global challenges.

6.May 2025.Hungarian-German Strategic Discussion at the Ludovika University of Public Service

On May 6, 2025, the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics at Ludovika University of Public Service, in cooperation with the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung, hosted the second Hungarian-German Strategic Discussion, an invitation-only international workshop focused on key strategic issues in Central Europe.

27 March  2025. Hungarian-Japanese Geopolitical Dialogue

The Directorate General for International Affairs of the Ludovika University of Public Service (LUPS) in cooperation with John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics organized a roundtable discussion featuring Hungarian and Japanese experts on March 27 in the university’s Zrínyi Hall. The event focused on various aspects of East Asian geopolitics, with particular emphasis on Sino-Japanese relations, and EU-Asia dimension.

On March 24, 2025, Professor Rory Medcalf, Head of the National Security College at the Australian National University, delivered a lecture at the Zrínyi Hall of Ludovika University of Public Service at an event organized by the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics (JLI). The distinguished foreign policy expert discussed geopolitical changes in the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing Australia’s role with a particular focus on its relations with China, the United States, and Europe.

6 March 2024. Türkiye in a Changing World

On 6 March 2024, the sixth Turkey in a Changing World Conference, a forum for doctoral students and young researchers on Turkey's geopolitical, security, foreign and domestic policy, was successfully held. The event covered a wide range of topics for Hungarian and Turkish participants, from Turkey's relations with the Balkans, Ankara's balancing policy, to the military and drone industry situation in the small Asian state. Two researchers from the John Lukacs Institute presented their research on the Turkish military industry and the army's missions abroad.

28 February 2024. Climate change and security in Hungary

The Green Policy Center held the results presentation conference of its Climate Change and Security in Hungary project at the Zrínyi Miklós Hall of the Ludovika University of Public Service on 28 February. The aim of the multi-faceted project was to assess the impacts of climate change in Hungary that pose potential security risks and to make policy recommendations to avoid these challenges becoming security problems.
