Innovation culture: the Amazon way

Organised by the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics (JLI) of the Ludovika University of Public Service, Attila Lengyel, Senior Business Development Manager of Amazon, one of the world's leading innovation companies, visited NKE and gave a presentation from the international organisation's headquarters in Luxembourg.

In his opening speech, Balázs Mártonffy, Research Director of JLI, said that although the target groups of NKE and Amazon may at first glance seem very different, the John Lukacs Institute's "ideas-people-structures" logic may be very similar to the company's approach. According to the director, the lecture is also an excellent opportunity for cross-sectoral and cross-university exchange, as in addition to students from the NKE, there were also participants from several companies and universities.

The event was moderated by Judit Szakos, JLI research fellow. Attila Lengyel, Speaker of Amazon Web Services Innovation and Transformation Programs, presented the company's unique culture of innovation, giving participants an insight into how Amazon is building a culture that encourages innovation through its culture, mechanisms, systems and organizational components.

The audience gained insight on how Amazon's management principles are structured and applied in everyday practice, and how this is supported by the process of thinking and working backwards. Most of the audience questions following the presentation also focused on understanding Amazon's innovation logic, breaking down the fear of failure and how the leadership guidelines presented could be implemented in the university structure.
