Euro-Atlantic Summer School
The Euro-Atlantic Summer School has been held annually since Hungary joined NATO. The training, organised with the participation of renowned security policy experts, provides students with lectures, seminars and crisis management simulations to learn about global security policy processes in Hungary and Europe's immediate environment.
The event, organised jointly by the John Lukacs Institute of the Eötvös József Research Centre of the National University of Public Service and the Hungarian Defence Forces' Brigade of the Budapest Garrison, gives 60 participants the opportunity to incorporate the knowledge and skills acquired during the training into their studies and professional work. The target group of the summer university includes officers, non-commissioned officers, government officials, defence personnel and volunteer reservists of the Hungarian Defence Forces, students of colleges, universities and doctoral studies, employees of prosecution, court, police and disaster management organisations, as well as students and teachers involved in the SoldierSoul programme. In addition to knowledge transfer, the main objective of the event is to promote the visibility of both the university and the research institute.
The Summer University aims to familiarise students with:
● the processes of the international security environment;
● the existing and potential conflicts of the present;
● the activities of NATO and the European Union and the strategic interpretation of events and processes in our globalised world;
● the direction of Hungarian security policy.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
● Recognise the drivers of international crises, their internal dynamics and their impact on local, regional and global processes;
● understand the process by which issues become security problems;
● to understand the modern concept of security and security policy;
● to present the topics of the training in a factual way, answering questions on the topics.
