- According to law enforcement and counter-terrorism authorities in several European countries, Hamas’s operational activity has increased in Europe since 2023.
- Hamas’ activities were most prominent in Germany, where the German authorities arrested two groups and several intermediaries in a series of operations, and reported the existence of weapons caches in three European locations.
- According to the German authorities, Hamas intended to carry out a terrorist attack on European soil, a claim which Hamas denies.
- Over the past three months, Cypriot and Greek authorities have reported the arrest of suspected Hamas members, with the Greek authorities also raising the possibility of a terrorist attack.
- There is an interesting overlap in the operations of Iranian and Hamas cells that have come under scrutiny, in terms of their use of Scandinavian organised crime groups for their operations. There have been arrests in Denmark linked to Hamas in this regard.
- The Hamas leadership denies any connection between those arrested and the organisation.
