Chinese Direct Investments in Hungary – Research and Policy Perspectives

On October 28, 2025, the Ludovika University of Public Service hosted a professional workshop titled “Chinese Investment in Hungary – A Semi-Periphery Perspective.” The event was organized by He Shaowei, Professor at the University of Northampton, and Viktor Eszterhai, PhD, Research Fellow at the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics.

The workshop aimed to provide a platform for participants to discuss the findings of their joint research from a policy-oriented perspective, particularly reflecting the viewpoints of Hungarian policymakers. Through the analysis of a case study, the discussion explored the potential economic and policy-related opportunities and risks of Chinese direct investments, as well as their broader implications for Hungary’s economy and investment policy.

The workshop contributed to shaping future research directions and deepened the understanding of policy approaches to managing Chinese FDI in Hungary.
