Ludovika University’s John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics was represented by Péter Tálas and Tamás Csiki Varga at the annual conference of the Network of European Strategic Studies Institutes (NESSI) in Bucharest on 17-18 September. Of the 24 European countries participating in the network, founded in 2020, 13 strategic studies research institutes represented themselves in person and several more online at the conference and consultation. Their shared aim was to exchange views and ideas on critical challenges to European security and defence, to promote common understanding and to formulate proposals for cooperation in certain areas.
This year’s meeting, entitled “Preparing for turbulent times – Reshaping Europe’s Defence Challenges, Lessons Learned and Possible Scenarios”, provided an opportunity for traditional conference presentations and consultations on member states’ positions, as well as for coordination on certain policy issues. JLI staff joined the exchange of ideas by assessing the strategic objectives and tasks of the Hungarian defense industry in relation to the development of European defense industrial capabilities.
