In late September 2024, a delegation from Ludovika University of Public Service, including representatives from the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics, visited the University of Notre Dame. Our visit marked the launch of the book The 2024 Hungarian EU Presidency and initiated discussions on future academic collaborations.
Balázs Tárnok, Director of Research, and Tamás Csiki Varga, Head of the Strategic Defense Research Program represented the John Lukacs Institute for Strategy and Politics in the delegation.
During the visit, the delegation held in-depth discussions with various institutes and departments to explore future academic partnerships. Balázs Tárnok and Tamás Csiki Varga, together with Pier Pigozzi, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at the Ludovika University, met with leadership from the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, the Notre Dame International Security Center, the Keough School of Global Affairs and the Nanovic Institute for European Studies. These discussions focused on potential joint research projects, primarily in international security.
A key highlight of the visit was a meeting with representatives of the Hesburgh Library, where we discussed of potential collaboration regarding the John Lukacs Collection. This remarkable archive has the potential to serve as a rich resource for future research.
The book launch took place at the Nanovic Institute for European Studies and was moderated by Professor Paolo Carozza from the Notre Dame Law School. Balázs Tárnok, co-editor of the book presented the volume's broader methodology and objectives, followed by presentations from the book's contributors, including Tamás Csiki Varga, who discussed the EU’s foreign and security policy. The presentations sparked a lively academic debate among Notre Dame faculty, contributing valuable insights into Hungary's role in shaping the EU's policy priorities.
The visit was a significant step toward deepening the academic relationship between Ludovika University and the University of Notre Dame, with promising prospects for future collaboration.
The John Lukacs Institute remains committed to fostering international partnerships and advancing scholarly research in key global issues.
